New Balance Made in USA
The Aesthetic of American Heritage, Creative Vision of Teddy Santis - New Balance Made in USA
In the modern sneaker world, few collections command as much respect as New Balance Made in USA. This line, crafted in American factories in New England, represents a perfect fusion of historical sports heritage and contemporary high-fashion aesthetics in Footshop's curated selection. With the arrival of Teddy Santis (founder of the cult New York brand Aimé Leon Dore) as the creative director of this division, Made in USA has become a true fashion phenomenon. It embodies premium streetwear that redefines the modern wardrobe through perfect colorways and masterful craftsmanship.
From Boston to the World: The Cult of the 990 Series
The story of the Made in USA collection is rooted in a rich history that began in Boston back in 1982 with the introduction of the revolutionary New Balance 990. It was the first running shoe to break the magical price barrier of $100, instantly becoming a symbol of status and refined taste.
Today, under Teddy Santis's direction, this collection merges nostalgic vintage aesthetics with clean New York minimalism. Every colorway Santis designs celebrates earthy tones, muted colors, and precisely balanced contrasts. Each model in this line carries a guaranteed share of handcrafted work directly in the USA, ensuring you receive a product with an exceptional story and uncompromising quality standards.
Material Synergy: A Touch of Luxury with Every Step
What immediately sets the Made in USA line apart from regular production is its luxurious material composition. Every detail on the shoe is designed to stimulate the senses and withstand the test of time:
-
Premium Pigskin Suede: Exceptionally soft, plush suede with a rich texture that gives the sneakers their distinctive premium look.
-
Heavyweight Mesh: A durable textile base that ensures perfect breathability and gives the shoe its iconic retro-running structure.
-
Legendary Cushioning Platforms: Midsole technologies ENCAP® and ABZORB® provide maximum stability, softness, and all-day comfort that you'll appreciate in the fast pace of the city.

New Balance 990
The $100 Shoe That Redefined Premium Footwear Over 40 Years Ago - New Balance 990
When it hit the market in 1982 at the then outrageous price of $100, few realized it would establish an entire category of "premium" sneakers. New Balance 990 is the founding model of the 99X series and one of the most significant silhouettes in the history of athletic footwear. Four years of development and a clearly defined goal – to create simply the best running shoe on the market – made it an archetype that the brand still references today. After more than four decades, the 990 remains a symbol of performance combined with craftsmanship.
History: Four Years of Development and a Bold Price Tag
The idea for the 990 was born back in 1978, when New Balance owner Jim Davis challenged his design team to create simply the best running shoe on the market. After four years of research and development, the model debuted in 1982 with an unprecedented price tag of $100 – an exceptional amount for athletic footwear at the time. The marketing campaign confidently proclaimed: “On a scale of 1 to 1000, this shoe is 990.” The 990 thus became the first truly premium running shoe aimed at serious athletes and laid the foundation for the entire 99X series, which continues to define New Balance as a brand that combines performance with craftsmanship.
Technology: From ABZORB to FuelCell and ENCAP
The latest generation (v6) showcases how the technological foundation of the 990 has evolved over more than four decades:
- FuelCell Midsole: Nitrogen-infused foam that replaces the older ABZORB in version v6, providing a softer, "cloud-like" ride with high energy return while maintaining low weight.
- ENCAP Technology: New Balance's traditional stabilization system – a soft foam core encased in a rigid polyurethane frame around the heel, keeping the foot secure and preventing unwanted ankle roll.
Design and Materials
The 990 is still made in the USA (Made in USA line), using premium pigskin suede and other high-quality materials, which, along with the FuelCell and ENCAP construction, ensure greater durability than most competing models.
Who This Model Is For
The 990 is a lifestyle silhouette for you if you're looking for an archetypal "dad shoe" with real historical weight – perfect for heritage design lovers and fans of American craftsmanship who want a blend of comfort, stability, and timeless style.

User reviews
More than a century of tradition based on stable and reliable movement. These are the New Balance shoes, which have become a symbol around which a cult of comfortable walking and running lovers has been created during the 20th century. But beyond sneakers, New Balance is also at the forefront of everyday and sports fashion. Every year, a special collection is released and more than one football team boasts the NB logo on their jersey.
The history and development of New Balance shoes
On our website and practically anywhere else, you won't find a large number of brands as old as New Balance. In fact, as early as 1906, the New Balance Arch Support Company was formed to provide specific aids for each shoe. These were designed to not only provide comfort to the then not-so-comfortable shoes, but more importantly stability by supporting the arch of the foot - hence the name New Balance.
However, New Balance sneakers as shoes did not start to come out until many years later. Specifically, the first silhouette of a New Balance shoe saw the light of day in 1960 when the Trackster model came out. It was unique among the others primarily because it was the first outright running shoe with a crimped sole.
But the marketing didn't work very well and for a long time New Balance shoes were still a community affair. It wasn't until the 1970s that sales started to grow, with the popularisation of running, which was also linked to the hosting of the now iconic Boston Marathon. New Balance shoes began to become popular among runners and the company slowly but surely became a leading manufacturer of running shoes.
For running? Yes, but also no.
Today, however, men's and women's New Balance sneakers aren't just a running thing. Over years of branding and image building, they have become sneakers for almost every situation. Today we wear New Balance shoes before a trip to the countryside, a city walk but also a social event and still undoubtedly before a sporting performance.
New Balance sneakers can therefore be found in a variety of different designs. Men's and women's, in black and white and many other colours. The most popular models today are mainly New Balance sneakers with the 247, 373, 574 and 997. Of course, you can find all these New Balance shoes on Footshop. But besides these, there are also many others and the ranges of the latest silhouettes are constantly growing. So before you make your final choice, carefully examine all of our New Balance sneakers.
A record for stability.
New Balance footwear today is not afraid to venture into collaborations with other fashion brands, but also artists or athletes. It's not so long ago that the NB logo also started to appear on the jerseys of some football teams, and it's not impossible that the brand's influence and reach will continue to grow in the future. New Balance sneakers are worn, for example, by Trayvon Bromell, the American sprinter who became the first junior ever to break the magic ten-second mark in the 100 metres. Could it be that New Balance shoes helped him to achieve this?
In short,New Balance sneakers are a phenomenon that we have been wearing for many decades and everything indicates that we will be wearing them for many decades to come. And hopefully in greater numbers. The original intention of the brand, to make wearing sneakers on a daily basis more enjoyable, has not left New Balance shoes even more than a century after the legendary phrase was introduced to the market.
So be part of a tradition with a clear vision and name your sneakers with the iconic NB in the logo.
