Salomon XA Pro 3D
Looking for men's sneakers that can handle rocky trails just as well as city pavements? The Salomon XA Pro 3D in black is rooted in trail running and hiking, and remains one of the brand's most recognized models. Whether you're heading out for a weekend trip to the mountains, a long walk in the woods, or hitting the streets, its technical look pairs perfectly with cargo pants or a functional jacket. The all-black design is easy to match and doesn't show mud easily.
The upper combines synthetic materials with textiles, ensuring a secure fit while keeping the sneaker lightweight. Between the outsole and midsole is the 3D Chassis system, which stabilizes the heel and protects the foot on uneven surfaces. The Contagrip outsole with its aggressive tread provides reliable grip on wet rocks, dirt, and asphalt. The OrthoLite® insole cushions each step and helps maintain a dry environment inside the sneaker. The low cut allows for ankle freedom, and the quick-lacing system can be tightened in one pull, eliminating the hassle of tying laces. The brand Salomon was founded in 1947 by François Salomon in Annecy, in the French Alps. The equipment is still developed with mountain terrain in mind, tested in challenging conditions.
Salomon Xa Pro 3D
The trail legend that has stood the test of millions of kilometers - Salomon XA Pro 3D
Salomon XA Pro 3D belongs to the sports category – it is one of the most successful and longest-produced trail running shoes on the market, designed for quick movement in challenging mountain terrain.
History: developed for elite adventure racers
Between 2003 and 2005, Salomon's designers and engineers collaborated directly with elite adventure racers to develop a shoe that can handle fast running, walking, climbing, and cycling across diverse mountain terrain. The result of intensive testing was the 3D Chassis technology – a flexible, cushioned plate in the midsole that balances stability with flexibility on uneven surfaces.
The XA Pro 3D model entered the global market in spring 2005. Since then, the shoe has sold over a million pairs and completely transformed the mountain multi-sport footwear category – it remains the model that defines versatility in the mountains and continues to be produced and sold (currently as version V9), making it one of the most enduring products in the brand's history.
Technology: 3D Advanced Chassis and Contagrip
What makes the XA Pro 3D stable even on technical, uneven terrain are these key elements:
- 3D Advanced Chassis: A rigid thermoplastic (TPU) frame embedded between the midsole and outsole that controls foot flex and adds torsional stiffness – preventing foot twisting on uneven surfaces and providing stability close to that of a lightweight hiking shoe.
- All-Terrain Contagrip outsole: Medium depth tread in a traditional arrangement ensures predictable grip on dirt and gravel, with good performance on both wet and dry surfaces.
- Gore-Tex version: In selected models, the membrane ensures waterproofing without sacrificing breathability – essential when crossing streams or navigating wet terrain.
Durability
The XA Pro 3D is among the most durable trail shoes on the market – while typical trail models last around 300–500 km, users report a lifespan of 700–1100 km for the XA Pro 3D, in some cases even several years of regular use on trails and in the city. The Contagrip outsole typically outlasts the upper of the shoe.
Who this model is for
The XA Pro 3D is for you if you need a stable and extremely durable shoe for challenging mountain terrain – ideal for trail running, fast hiking, and adventure racing, where stability on uneven surfaces is more important than lightweight design.
