The Legend That Changed Basketball Shoes - Air Jordan 11 Retro
The Air Jordan 11 Retro is one of the most iconic basketball sneakers of all time and is still considered the pinnacle of performance, luxury and design. The model was first introduced in 1995 and instantly made history when Michael Jordan wore them during his famous return to the NBA. It was in the Air Jordan 11 that he led the Chicago Bulls to a legendary 72-10 season and the 1996 NBA title.
Designer Tinker Hatfield wanted to use materials on the Air Jordan Retro 11 that had never been used on any basketball shoe before. He also wanted these shoes to look like a polished convertible, which is why the shoes have patent leather uppers. This made them look more luxurious than any other basketball shoe of their time. The shoes also have a Phylon midsole with a full-length Air-Sole unit, which provides lightweight and responsive cushioning and maximum comfort on the court.
In addition to Michael Jordan, other basketball stars have worn this model, such as Kobe Bryant in the early days of his career, elite shooter Ray Allen, and Dwyane Wade before the brand was even created. The Air Jordan 11 Retro has become not only a sports icon, but also a cultural symbol that has influenced basketball, streetwear and sneaker culture around the world.
Materials
Textile: The textile upper of the sneakers is lightweight, breathable and comfortable, ideal for everyday wear and sports. It ensures air circulation, keeps feet fresh and adapts to their shape. Often complemented with synthetic or rubber details for durability and support.
Coated leather : Precisely crafted leather with a synthetic coating that extends the life of the shoe and makes it easier to maintain.
Air Sole: Legendary cushioning element, a capsule filled with compressed air placed in the heel or toe of the shoe. It compresses on impact, absorbing shock and reducing stress on the joints. This increases comfort, energy return and durability of the shoe and has fundamentally influenced the development of modern sneakers.
Rubber: The rubber outsole provides excellent grip and durability on a variety of surfaces. Thanks to its elasticity, it absorbs shock, increasing comfort when walking or running.
In the history of sneakers, there is perhaps no more successful collaboration between a sneaker brand and an athlete than in the case of Michael Jordan and Nike. From the union of these two concepts came a legend in the form of Air Jordan in 1984. These sneakers were initially worn exclusively by the legendary thirty-three, however, within a few months of their introduction, Jordans were also in the hands of the public.
The legend in the form of the Air Jordan 1
The Air Jordan 1, which Michael first put on more than thirty years ago, is now one of the most popular silhouettes among sneakerheads. But the beginnings weren't exactly easy. In 1985, the most famous basketball player in history was banned from wearing Jordan 1 shoes because they didn't meet the prescribed game dress code, according to the NBA . To make matters worse, he would have to pay a $5,000 fine for every game he wore them.
This, of course, wouldn't be the seasoned Nike, which had a proper respect for its workhorse. Rather than risk the recall of this Jordan sneaker, it was decided that the company would rather cash in any such fine to Michael just so he could wear the J's as they were. The pinnacle of healthy audacity was an ad for just the Air Jordan 1 shoe called "banned." It featured, among other things, the legendary line, "The NBA threw them (Air Jordan 1) out of the game. Unfortunately the NBA can't stop YOU from wearing them".
New era, new Jordans
Time moved on, and as the years passed, so did more Jordan shoes. After the legendary 1s came the 2s, then the 3s, and by 2000 the number of new silhouettes had climbed to 15. Today, there are many more, and more models are still being added. However, even though these are far from being some worthless pieces, the glory of their first retro models is hardly matched by the new Jordan shoes aka Jordans .
Nike Jordan shoes have already entered their fourth decade of existence. Unlike a lot of other brands, Jordan sneakers have never strayed from their pre-marked path, that is to produce basketball sneakers for top athletes. But from the street basketball courts and gym floors, Air Jordan shoes have moved in a big way to the city streets as well. Among other things, the popularity among fashion and sneaker fans is also due to their popularity among the world's music stars, who do not hesitate to wear Jordan sneakers to concerts, fashion events and the most prestigious music awards.
