Materials
DWR (Durable Water Repellent): A special water-repellent coating that is applied to the top layer of the material. It works by reducing the surface tension of the fabric, so that moisture is not absorbed into the fibres but forms droplets on the surface that run off easily. This treatment is key to maintaining breathability - if the outer fabric were to soak up water, it would form an impenetrable barrier that would prevent body vapour from escaping outwards. While DWR doesn't provide complete waterproofing like a membrane, it is an essential accessory that keeps clothing light, dry and fully functional even in rainy weather.
PFC-free water-repellent treatment: A modern water-repellent treatment that ensures the functionality of the material without the use of harmful perfluorinated chemicals. These substances are non-degradable and toxic in nature. Alternative PFC-free technology creates a tension on the fabric surface that allows water droplets to flow away instead of soaking in. You get reliable protection from moisture that is kind to your health and the environment.
FUTURELIGHT™: It is the ultimate in breathable waterproof technology. Its nano-spun polyurethane structure creates the lightest and most comfortable membrane yet, letting in air and water vapour but remaining fully waterproof. This keeps you drier, more comfortable and at the ideal temperature, even when the weather or the intensity of your movement changes.
77% Recycled polyester: Sustainable material made from used plastics (e.g., PET bottles) and industrial waste. It has identical technical properties to regular polyester – it's extremely strong, lightweight, and wrinkle-resistant. However, its production requires half the energy and significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. Products made from recycled fibers dry quickly, retain their shape, and are highly abrasion-resistant. It's the ideal choice for anyone seeking functionality and quality with a focus on environmental protection.
235% Recycled nylon: It is a highly functional eco-friendly material made from waste, such as old fishing nets, carpet remnants, or industrial plastics. In terms of properties, it fully matches newly produced nylon – it is extremely strong, lightweight, and highly abrasion-resistant. In fashion and accessories, it stands out for its elasticity and quick-drying capabilities. Its production significantly reduces environmental impact and oil consumption, while the resulting goods maintain a premium appearance, long lifespan, and technical precision.
Details
The popular outdoor brand with American roots was founded in 1968 in California. It is named after the coldest and most inaccessible face of Half Dome Mountain in Yosemite National Park, which is also depicted in the brand's logo. And it has helped many an adventurer scale the heights of the Himalayas.
The story began in sunny, warm San Francisco. In 1966, Douglas Tompkins and Susie Tompkins, a married couple of hiking enthusiasts, decided to open a climbing gear store. Their store, The North Face, began to gain popularity and two years later they moved across San Francisco Bay to Berkeley. There they began designing and manufacturing their own brand of technical climbing clothing and equipment.
In the early 1980s, The North Face also explored the world of skiing and included extreme-condition skiwear in its lineup. If you have any idea what the 1980s were like, you can probably imagine the colors these clothes shone in. Pastels, neons, pastels and more neons. If you put one and one together, you can definitely figure out where the colourful ski jackets that are still very popular across the board today came from. Through diligent development and discovery, eventually the TNF brand lacked nothing short of the essentials, becoming the only supplier in the US to offer comprehensive, high-quality gear for extreme conditions.
More than 50 years later, The North Face has risen to the pinnacle of outdoor gear, becoming a recognized brand among climbers, skiers, snowboarders and many other athletes. Thanks to collaborations with streetwear and fashion brands such as Vans, Supreme, Gucci and Palace, TNF has been embraced by fashion fans around the world, including rappers such as Redman, Travis Scott, Method Man and Drake.
The North Face is not absent from Footshop either. Here you'll find T-shirts, hoodies, windbreakers, iconic puffer jackets, as well as winter jackets and your favourite duffle bags, with which you'll never stop exploring and experiencing new adventures.
